Manager Quote of the Week
Spurs were 1-0 down away to Aston Villa in November 2014, with 82 minutes gone on the clock. Having started the season poorly (14 points from 10 games) it looked ominous for Poch and his team:
“I turned to face the dugout. I looked at Toni, Jesus, and Miki [his assistants] and told them, ‘Lads, pack your bags tonight, because tomorrow we’re going home.’”
Mauricio Pochettino – Brave New World:Inside Pochetinno’s Spurs
Chadli (84) and Kane (90+1) both scored to turn the game on its head and snatch all three points. Tottenham kicked on that season to finish 5th in the league – a demonstration of the thin line between success and failure.
Gameweek 3 proved a reality check for all the template fpl squads that were starting to form – a friendly reminder that there is no easy way to accumulate points. Premium defenders, such as Alonso (11) and Trippier (11), proved their worth once again by scoring double digits; which opens the discussion – is this the year to invest heavily in attack minded defenders? We shall wait and see. @conor2me87 picked Mitrovic as his budget option last week and he did not disappoint- scoring 2 goals and an assist to gather 16 points.
The gameweek 4 deadline is 11:30 on Sep 1st.
Every gameweek we’ll ask a league member or an FPL veteran to provide their choice of player in 6 key areas, relating to the upcoming fixtures. Essential: Marcus Alonso £6.7m (CHE v bou)
His form is just too good to ignore.
Alonso (£6.6m, 28.8% ownership) heatmap from today.
4 BOU | 5 CAR | 6 whm
— FPL SW⚽️T (@FPLSWOT) August 26, 2018
Alonso is striving under Sarri-ball and with BOU (H) CAR (H) and WHU (A) next you can expect a CS along with those likely attacking returns.
Nice to have: Lucas Moura £7.1m (wat v TOT)
Great short term punt with Son out, should do well against Watford.
Differential: Aaron Ramsey £7.4m (car v ARS)
A player who is highly rated by Emery and, after Özil’s latest omission, you can expect Ramsey to nail down and flourish in his no.10 role. After a solid performance against West Ham, where he had a goal flagged for offside, Ramsey (1.1% ownership) will be heavily involved against much weaker opposition like Cardiff City.
Clean Sheet (Team) – Man City (MCY v new)
Benjamin Mendy and Co. are coming up against a lacklustre Newcastle United side who have only managed 4 shots on target in their games v Chelsea and Spurs and, with City expected to get the large share of possession, it would be hard to see Newcastle make an impact at all in front of goal.
Budget Option: Mitrovic £6.6m (bha v FUL)
Mitro gets the nod for a 2nd week in a row. Get him cheap before the next price rise after he inevitably comes away from Brighton with returns this week. He really is on fire after bagging three goals and an assist in his last two games. With a good run of fixtures coming up, and ownership still at 11.3%, he may well prove to be the best 3rd forward option this season.
Captain Choice: Sergio Aguero £11.3m (MCY v new)
Who else? After 3 goals and an assist in his last game at the Etihad you just can’t write off Aguero from bagging similar returns against a struggling Newcastle United side on Saturday.
Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero comes out top for goal attempts (16) over the past 3 gameweeks. Having scored 12 goals and assisting 3 more in his 6 previous home PL outings vs Newcastle, the Argentine forward looks certain to be handed our captaincy for GW4. #FPL (@FFExperts_ ) pic.twitter.com/A8YTzXLxDR

Form, fixture and historical data all point towards a big haul for Kun once again this week.
