Manager Quote of the Week

“He’s six foot something, fit as a flea, good looking – he’s got to have something wrong with him. Hopefully he’s hung like a hamster – That would make us all feel better. Having said that, me missus has got a pet hamster at home, and his c***’s massive.”

FPL Gameweek One Preview

The Gameweek 1 deadline is 19:00 on August 10th.

There is very little time left for the FPL manager to tinker their latest drafts and finalize selections for the openers however we’ve reached the business end of pre-season. Listen out for the next managers’ press conference’s as they’ll inevitably give us massive insight into what players are fit and ready to start the season this weekend.

We’ll ask a league member or an FPL veteran to provide their choice of player in 6 key areas, relating to the upcoming gameweek. I’m having a crack at Gameweek one!

Gameweek One Preview

Essential: Mo Salah £13m (LIV v whu)

Massive ownership at 51.9% and the highest scoring player from the 17/18 season. He has had a quick return to the squad post the world cup, scoring twice in friendlies. I don’t fancy leaving Salah out and seeing him score heavily at home to West Ham; then having to rip my team apart the following gameweek in order to fit all 13m of him in, away to Palace.

Nice to Have: Alexis Sanchez £10.5m (MAN v lei)

He’s flourished pre-season playing in a central advanced role with 2 goals and 1 assist, albeit Lukaku may start in that position on Friday night. United came out of the firing blocks early last season scoring plenty of goals. An in-form Sanchez is dangerous and can score big in FPL but he needs good steady service from other players – a “nice to have” option but the expensive price tag and lack of Utd goals will turn many managers off.

Surprise Differential: Josh King £6.5m (BOU v car)

4 goals and 1 assist pre-season paired with an opening weekend home fixture against newly promoted Cardiff City. 5.4% ownership. Newly classified strikers Zaha and Arnautovic are good options but hardly differentials with ownerships of 31% and 25% respectively.

Clean Sheet (Team): Man Utd (MAN v lei)

Mourinho to keep it tight at the back on opening day. A fit Eric Bailly being the pick of the united defenders. David De Gea is the reigning highest scoring goalkeeper and will surely be in many teams.

Budget option: Aaron Wan-Bissaka £4m (ful v CRY)

The young defender has started all matches at right-back for Palace pre-season and everything points towards him cementing a place in the team this season. A must have cheap option if you are squeezing the money men like Salah, Aguero and Kane et al into your starting lineups.

Captain Choice: Mo Salah £13m (LIV v whu)

Fresh off a double in the community shield Sergio Aguero is currently on vice. Ultimately I asked myself the question; Which captaincy option will not cause sleepless nights this week? Salah (c) will allow me to get some sleep on Friday night and actually enjoy watching the first round of Premier fixtures without the worry that my FPL hopes will take a big stumble before getting out of the traps.
